Radio communication in the warehouses of PSB Group S.A.

As planned, the radio network covered all warehouse buildings, including the high-bay warehouse and the outdoor areas between the buildings, such as driveways and the external storage yard. In the course of implementing the network for the warehouse system, the client decided to extend the coverage to the office area as well. Ensuring wireless network coverage across such a large and diverse area required the use of several networking technologies.

A team of network specialists tailored a new solution to the client’s needs by not only expanding the network, but also skillfully integrating the new network with the existing one. The implementation began with radio wave propagation measurements, which served as the basis for designing the LAN and WLAN. The chosen solution was Cisco Mobility Express. Providing wireless network coverage across such a vast and diverse area required the use of multiple networking technologies.

In the cold storage areas, dedicated access points were installed—specifically designed to operate in highly demanding conditions, including parameters such as temperature, humidity, sealing, and durability. Meanwhile, the access points operating in the remaining warehouse and production areas were equipped with special enclosures. These provide additional protection and also help maintain the access points at the appropriate temperature and humidity levels.

Implementation and standardization of LAN and WLAN networks for Espersen

It is worth noting that some of the access points operate in freezers and cold storage areas, where the temperatures reach as low as -30°C and -10°C, respectively. In these cases, SKK Networks provided dedicated devices. In other production areas, the installation work had to take into account different factors. Since Espersen adheres to the highest standards in food quality, all production equipment in the factories is washed once a day using special disinfectants. Therefore, the access points were equipped with waterproof enclosures designed and manufactured by SKK Networks engineers.

The implemented 802.11ac wireless network standard provides very high data transmission speeds, and its latest functionalities result in efficient and reliable operation of devices. Additionally, the spectrum analyzer built into the access points allows them to automatically respond to changing environmental conditions. The modern network, deployed across three facilities, ensures increased security and overall improved quality. It is worth noting that the entire implementation was carried out in a non-invasive manner, without disrupting the company’s operations. As a result, the work of SKK Networks specialists did not cause any network downtime, which was one of Ceramika Paradyż’s key requirements.

Tires are a material that strongly attenuates radio waves, which presents a challenge when planning a network. To ensure proper network performance, it is necessary to take into account both fully and partially stocked warehouse conditions. Based on their experience, conducted simulations, and wave propagation measurements, SKK Network specialists selected the appropriate types and quantities of network devices and strategically positioned them as part of the project.
